Our Heritage

A journey through time.

During the ice ages of the Quaternary, history tells us that there was a long period of aeolian winds. Strong storms carried elements down from the Pyrenees, depositing gravel and pebbles in a sandy matrix. This formed an important resource for soils suitable for viticulture: hills, providing the vineyards with the benefits of natural drainage.

Digging into the heterogeneous soils of Château Du Tertre, intermingled with sand, fine gravel and clay, reveals clay subsoils where the gravelly ridges vary between 3 and 5 metres, giving the soil freshness and depth.

Today, it is the Du Tertre men who look after this precious terroir, a legacy of time that provides the vines with everything they need and breathes vital freshness into the wines.

The passage of time has done nothing to dissipate this legacy, and today the estate’s vineyards are scattered with soils rich in history, whose varied character is conducive to quality viticulture.

The watchword:
preserve and perpetuate.

Since 1997, Dutch-born businessman Eric Albada has been redeveloping and modernising the vineyard and the estate to make it more efficient and to match his ambitions.

The house was restored with elegance, delicacy and subtlety. The atmosphere is warm and homely from room to room.

The park, redesigned by Jacques Wirtz, the man behind the Jardins du Carrousel in Paris and the Jubilee Parc in London, offers an enchanting interlude where elegance and refinement meet.

The Helfrich family took over the reins of the estate in 2021.
